This downtown St. Paul engagement session was nothing short of magical! The weather was flawless and absolutely perfect for Lauren and Dan’s Parisian inspired engagement session.
These two PhD candidates have endured quite the journey to make it down the aisle next month. While working on their doctorates, Dan was living in France and Lauren in India. They made as many trips as possible to connect while abroad, one which included getting engaged in Paris!! Due to Covid, we couldn’t travel abroad, so finding the perfect backdrops in downtown St. Paul for their engagement session was key. Paris is filled with endless city fountains and limestone buildings that create the perfect light. But there are endless secret enclaves and parks tucked within the city. Can you tell I miss it? Naturally downtown St. Paul has a few of these elements that have become very iconic for photographers.
We spent the beautiful May evening wandering around downtown St. Paul starting with Irvine Park. I personally live in St. Paul and just adore its classic historical style, so Lauren and Dan’s vision for this session was right up my alley. Irvine Park is a historical square with some of the oldest homes in the city. It absolutely oozes with charm. It also makes an ideal space to begin a session as its very quiet and peaceful.
We then moved our session to James J Hill Library. Again the stone, coloring and architecture mirrors a bit of their favorite city and definitely didn’t disappoint! We ended in another one of my favorite little parks on Summit Avenue. If you’ve never visited St. Paul, Summit Avenue is not to be missed. The street is lined with beautiful historical mansions along with gorgeous parks. You could absolutely spend an entire day wandering around the neighborhood and looking at all the homes.
Dan and Lauren are HUGE fans of dessert. Naturally, we needed to end our St. Paul engagement session by stopping at a popular ice cream shop for a few extra pictures.
